David Hockney: A 20 Year Retrospective at Fondation Louis Vuitton

The Fondation Louis Vuitton will pay tribute to painter David Hockney with a grand retrospective. This exhibition will feature over 25 years of the English artist's work. Mark your calendars: the exhibition will be open from April 9 to September 1, 2025. It's a cultural event you won't want to miss! For more than sixty years, David Hockney has made an indelible impact on the contemporary art scene with his bold, distinctive style. Renowned for his colorful landscapes, lively portraits, and strikingly graphic Californian pools, such as the iconic Pool with Two Figures, Hockney is celebrated for his vivid colors and distinctly pop aesthetic. His deeply personal creations continue to captivate art enthusiasts of all ages.

In 2021, the artist had already left a significant impression with his exhibition A Year in Normandie at the Musée de l’Orangerie, showcasing paintings inspired by the Normandy landscape created during the lockdown. Fast forward five years, and the exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation will spotlight the artist's creative journey over the past 25 years. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire his Normandy-inspired canvases alongside his digital artworks crafted on an iPad, a medium he embraced with remarkable skill during the global pandemic. With over 400 pieces on display, this will be the most extensive retrospective ever dedicated to the artist. Indeed, all 11 rooms of the foundation will be dedicated to showcasing his most remarkable works.

Get ready to immerse yourself in a vivid array of colors and emotions and discover the enchanting universe of David Hockney!

Wes Anderson at The Cinémathèque

This is the first exhibition devoted to the work of filmmaker Wes Anderson. It follows the evolution of his work, from his first steps in the 90s to his most recent Oscar-winning film.

Asteroid City - Wes Anderson; with Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks.

Each of Wes Anderson's films plunges the viewer into a different universe, with its own codes, motifs and references, its own sumptuous sets and costumes, identifiable at first glance.

“For me, emotion and story are never separate. The way I work is to think of a character, then an image associated with that character. Little by little, pieces start to fit together and take shape. I also created an animated storyboard. However, while shooting this film, I was always asking Jason Schwartzman and the rest of the cast to find every scrap of emotion available. It's a delicate undertaking. In fact, this film is quite delicate, in the sense that there are no scenes where big feelings are expressed. The emotion comes in an oblique way.” (Wes Anderson about Asteroid City)

Over the years, through numerous collaborations and his unwavering dedication to the art of filmmaking, Wes Anderson has crafted a cinematic style that is distinctly his own. This exhibition marks the first comprehensive exploration of the unique aesthetic elements across his entire body of work, unveiling his sources of inspiration, tributes, and the meticulous artistry that defines his direction. From the poignant allure of The Royal Tenenbaums to the youthful escapades of Moonrise Kingdom, and the groundbreaking stop-motion animation in Fantastic Mr. Fox, this exhibition provides a chance to delve into how Anderson's singular vision and meticulous attention to detail have produced some of the most visually and emotionally resonant films of our time.

Featuring an extensive array of props, original costumes, and documents that reveal the secrets behind his filmmaking process, largely drawn from his personal collection, this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into Wes Anderson's world and honors his enduring impact on modern cinema.
